About the text statistics
Counts characters, letters, words, sentences, paragraphs, lines and UTF-8 bytes, then estimates reading and speaking time and lists the most frequent words. Byte size is measured properly, so emoji and accented text are not undercounted.
Frequently asked questions
Why do characters and bytes differ?
UTF-8 uses one byte for ASCII and up to four for other characters. A tweet of emoji can be several times its character count in bytes, which matters for database columns and API limits.
How is reading time calculated?
At 220 words per minute for silent reading and 130 for speaking aloud. Both are averages for general prose; dense technical writing runs considerably slower.
