    About the temperature converter

Converts between eight temperature scales at once — Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin, Rankine, Delisle, Newton, Réaumur and Rømer — and refuses values below absolute zero. Common reference points are noted as you cross them.

    Frequently asked questions

Why is there no degree sign on Kelvin?

Kelvin is an absolute thermodynamic unit, not a scale of degrees. It is written 294 K, never 294 °K — a convention the SI dropped in 1967.

What is the quick mental conversion?

Double the Celsius value and add 30 for a rough Fahrenheit figure. It is within a few degrees across normal weather, which is usually close enough to decide on a coat.
