Why is a 50% rise then a 50% fall not a return to the start?
Each percentage applies to a different base. 100 rises to 150, and half of 150 is 75. Reversing a 50% increase needs a 33.3% decrease.
How do I remove tax from a total?
Divide rather than subtract. For 20% tax, divide by 1.2 — subtracting 20% from the gross gives the wrong answer. The apply mode shows this reverse figure directly.
